BLETCHINGDON ROAD  // Oxfordshire, UK // Ongoing

We were commissioned to develop an outline concept proposal for a new residential development in Bletchingdon,
UK. The site is situated within a greenbelt and forms part of a conservation area with stunning views over rolling
meadows towards the south. Our starting point was to establish a masterplan consisting of three house types, each self-similar in their architectural language. We created a dense plan, where the houses are allowed to exist close to each other to promote the idea of communal living and shared social space. The volumetric and material character of the houses take their cue from the local vernacular, which consists of monolithic stone houses with strong roof silhouettes. The new houses combine concrete and stone with large punched window openings as sculptural versions of the older houses, and with a simplistic approach to detailing.
