Research Cabin  // Floda, SE // Completed

We were approached by research foundation Floda 31 to design and build a house for guest researchers, coming to
stay in Floda for shorter periods of time. We teamed up with some of our Alumni students from the Bartlett, and delivered the project together. The small house is a prototype design, which aims to investigate how the direct use of natural processes and weather shifts can improve our built environment. The house is equipped with a series of fins - long walls that extend beyond its facade - which are positioned in such a way that they will capture snow in winter time, and as such add to the thermal capacity of the house during the cold winter months. In summer, the walls act as permeable screens that shield views from the neighbouring houses, allowing you to extend your private life out into the garden.
