MORRISONS ISLAND MASTERPLAN // Cork, IRL // 2017
The river in the city is a spatially confined, artificially controlled, hydraulic infrastructure. We believe that the river can be once again used to transport people around the city by employing technologies which deal with the level of the water with respect to its adjacent built environment. We also note that occasional flooding of the riverbanks is only a problem if it is not properly considered. Our proposal celebrates flood events by allowing the water to occupy “beaches” along the quays. Finally our proposal looks at making a framework for public spaces within Morrison’s Island and strategies for sustainable urban development which will benefit the quayside, connecting the area to the rest of the city while maintaining a very close relationship with the water.
